Take Action

FOCO, it's time for us to act.

Here are all the ways YOU can help make change.

Bring friends and neighbors and attend a City Council or Planning and Zoning Board Meeting

We are making something happen, Ft. Collins, and could be on our way to a successful outcome. But we need YOU to stand up and make your voice and ideas for the Hughes space heard to the City Council and the Ft. Collins Planning and Zoning Board.
All you need to attend a City meeting
1. Keep up with our Events page for meeting dates.

2. Share this event/page on social media and with friends and neighbors! We need MAJOR turnouts to these meetings to let the City know just how much we care about the future of the Hughes space, and we need you to help us make it happen by sharing.

3. You can elect to speak, or, can opt out of presenting at a meeting. If you would like to speak, you typically have between 30 seconds and 3 minutes to stand at the public speaking podium in the City Council building, and share your thoughts and ideas before them.

4. If you need ideas, we will provide you with a 60 second speech that hits our most salient topics. (Examples: congestion, bikes, safety, Co2, etc.) So, no preparation is needed, if you want to speak and need to make the whole thing easy!

5. If you would rather not speak, we still need you and your friends there! For those who don't speak, we'll provide bright green PATHS cards so our group can show visual support of our initiatives.

Join the PATHS letter writing campaign

It is difficult to understate how critical it is for all who care about the Hughes redevelopment to let their thoughts be known to the City of Fort Collins.

So, we invite everyone who is passionate about a community-friendly, sustainable redevelopment plan for Hughes to join PATHS in writing 17,000 letters to the City of Fort Collins.

Write Your Letter
The public's love for Fort Collins and the Hughes area is deep and unique. We're confident that if we get the word out and commit to taking action together, we can meet our goal of having 17, 000 letters delivered to The City. So, now is the time for us to put our love for Ft. Collins into action, make it known to the City in a big way, and do our best to make a difference!

If you've never done anything like this before, do not worry. Please follow the steps below.

How to Write To Your City Councilperson
STEP 1. SHARE THIS PAGE
  • Never underestimate one small action. We cannot make our dream of a community sustainable Hughes site without your help. So, share this page on social media, email, and with friends and neighbors in person. You can even make this an opportunity to build a new community connection by arranging to write your letter with someone you know!

STEP 2. CHOOSE A TOPIC
  • Are you passionate about a plan that improves or considers air quality, climate change issues, the environment and access to nature? Housing for all income levels?  Traffic impacts and bike/pedestrian safety? All of the above?
  • Choose your topic(s) and prepare to share your thoughts and passions about them in your letter.

STEP 3: GET INSPIRED BY A SAMPLE LETTER
  • Click here to use this letter as inspiration for writing yours.
  • We recommend a cordial, passionate and positive letter, written in your unique style.

STEP 4: RESEARCH & WRITE
  • Persuade City Council with data and facts by doing background research.
  • As you research, identify the major points you're going to make. Track your sources as you go.
  • Write your letter, moving one-by-one through your major points, and add supporting details to each of them.
  • Cite your sources as you write. If you've never done this before, try the Footnote tool in Google Docs. It does all the work of footnoting your document--you just add the source links.
  • And do not worry about perfection. Simply write your letter and get us to 17,000.

STEP 5: SEND YOUR LETTER
  • Find out who your City Council Person is here and personally address your letter to your representative: https://www.fcgov.com/cityclerk/district-boundaries
  • Email your letter to your Council Person as well as all other Council members and the Ft. Collins mayor. Addresses are here: https://www.fcgov.com/council/

Make a video for our Facebook wall

We're also collecting video clips on our Facebook wall on what you love about living in Ft. Collins, and what Hughes, sustainability and within-reach housing all mean to you. It's another way we're making sure the city knows how the public feels about Hughes and all the things that really matter to you surrounding its future.

If you love our outdoor space, our wildlife, our recreation opportunities, our beautiful city, and you wish to build a sustainable Ft. Collins that prioritizes the environment, attainable housing and everyone in our community, make us your video telling us all about it, and upload it to our Facebook wall, here. We suggest keeping it passionate, positive, fact-based and friendly.

PATHS: Planning Action to Transform Hughes Sustainably
We are members of the FoCo community aligned in resisting the Lennar housing development plan for the Hughes Stadium Redevelopment area. Our objective is to find a more sustainable, community-friendly alternative to the current 600 to 700 homes planned at the Hughes Stadium Development site.
